Safeguarding Incident & Investigation Lead (interim)

We are working with a leading international organisation to appoint an experienced Interim Safeguarding & Investigations Lead to support a high-profile incident and investigation improvement project.

We are particularly interested in speaking to experienced investigations professionals with a background in safeguarding, childcare, education, children’s services or policing/law enforcement.

This is a hands-on role working closely with senior and operational stakeholders to review complex incidents and investigations, support effective root-cause analysis and ensure that learning is translated into practical improvements across the organisation.

A key part of the assignment will be reviewing investigation findings and root-cause analysis, identifying recurring themes and opportunities for improvement and developing clear remediation plans. You will then work with operational teams to ensure actions are implemented effectively, tracked and taken through to evidence-based closure. This retains the core focus of the project specification without publicly referring to the circumstances behind the assignment.

You will also provide targeted support on selected complex or high-risk incidents and investigations, while supporting the continued development of incident triage, escalation, investigation, reporting and organisational learning.

We are particularly interested in individuals who bring:

  • Significant hands-on experience of incident management and investigations within a complex, regulated or multi-site organisation.
  • Experience of safeguarding or child protection, ideally within childcare, education, children’s services or another child-focused environment; alternatively, a strong policing/public protection/investigations background.
  • Strong experience of root-cause analysis, identifying underlying and systemic issues and translating findings into practical corrective actions.
  • Experience managing sensitive, complex or high-risk investigations and exercising sound judgement in challenging situations.
  • The ability to work with operational teams to drive remediation actions through to completion and evidence-based closure.
  • Experience identifying themes and using learning from individual incidents to improve wider organisational practice.
  • Strong stakeholder skills and the confidence to challenge constructively while building effective relationships with operational and senior leadership teams.
  • Experience of crisis/critical incident management and/or incident or case-management tools would be advantageous.

This role would particularly suit someone who combines strong operational investigations experience with the ability to step back, identify what needs to change and ensure those improvements are implemented in practice.

The assignment is initially for six months and will be delivered predominantly remotely, with travel to UK sites as required.
