ATF Fuels’ customers have donated over £10,0000 to the Jersey Marine Society and £3,000 to Jersey Trees For Life as part of their carbon offset scheme.

The principle of the scheme allows ATF customers to neutralise their petrol, diesel and home heating fuel emissions. ATF offset emissions by purchasing carbon credits to fund environmental conservation and restoration projects in Jersey, as well as contributing to accredited international carbon offset projects.

The funds for the Jersey Marine Society have been put towards a project to restore seagrass meadows in St Catherine’s Harbour with Environmentally Friendly Mooring Buoys (EFMB’s). The restoration of seagrass meadows has the potential to become the islands largest carbon reserve.

Jersey Trees for Life have used their funds to plant hedgerow whips and tree saplings as part of their Hedgerow Campaign. The object of the campaign is to reconnect or create new hedgerows around Jersey to provide living corridors for the Islands’ wildlife to move around freely off the busy roads. These hedgerows also include cherry trees for pollen to help to improve local biodiversity.

Karis Blackwell, the ATF Customer Service & Marketing Manager said: “As a conscientious fuel supplier, we understand the challenges that face our customers to help them achieve a lower carbon future. Our carbon offset scheme provides an easy option for people who want to address the impact of their emissions by offsetting fuel purchases”.

Karis continued: “ATF Fuels are the first fuel retailer in Jersey to provide customers the ability to offset their carbon emissions from their own vehicle and home heating. Our initiative assists the Government of Jersey to achieve its vision of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.”
