Channel Eye has joined forces with Royston Guest, leading Business Growth Coach and CEO/Founder of Pathways Global, in our column, ‘Ask the Business Coach’.

It is easy to become blinkered when working in your business daily. You fail to see the complexity in your current processes, procedures or ways of working, and unfortunately, complexity will not scale.

Business Growth Pathways logoThree key takeaways

  1. Be aware of marginal erosion.
  2. Walk through your business with a fresh lens.
  3. Ask how easy are we to do business with?

Episode timestamps

  • [1.17] Be aware of marginal erosion, the opposite of marginal gains. As businesses grow, new governance, checklists, processes, workarounds, and delegated authorities are introduced. Layer upon layer of checks and measures is usually in addition to, rather than replacing, existing checks and measures. This ultimately will slow a business down.
  • [2.50] The continual updates to existing regulations and legislation, plus the addition of new ones, mean businesses are in a state of constant review and updates. Again, this is not a bad thing IF you’re removing out-of-date processes at the same time rather than keep adding to them.
  • [3.50] Walk through your business with a fresh lens and through your customers’ eyes and ask how easy is it to do business with us? How easy is it for our people to do business with our customers?
