Medical Specialist Group consultant physician Dr Patrick Harnett has replaced Pippa Read as Chair of the Guernsey Medic Network.
The networking site was launched in September 2023 to support medical school applicants, undergraduates, and junior doctors. It will also help medical school applicants, undergraduates and junior doctors. It will help to improve healthcare locally by encouraging outstanding doctors to work in the Bailiwick.
Conceived by Elizabeth College chemistry teacher and medicine mentor Pippa Read, with particular support from the Medical Specialist Group, the Guernsey Medic Network is the result of a ground breaking collaboration between the Colleges, the Sixth Form Centre, the MSG, Health and Social Care and all GP practices in Guernsey and Alderney.
Dr Harnett (pictured) said: “It’s an honour to take on the role of Chair for the Guernsey Medic Network. It’s a valuable way to encourage young people to consider pursuing medicine as a career and to maintain the profile of Guernsey as a great place to live and practice, and hopefully attract high-quality doctors.
“I hope to continue the excellent work of Pippa Read, last year’s chair whose involvement has been invaluable in setting up the network.”
Pippa said: “We have enjoyed a successful first year, after our launch in September. We have grown our membership across all sectors of the profession including those doctors who are off-island and still have a fondness for Guernsey. We have enjoyed networking events both in person, and online and are looking forward to more of the same in the coming year, all of which can be found on our website. We designed The Guernsey Medic Network so that the position of chairperson would rotate each year and I couldn’t be more thrilled that Patrick has offered to take on the role to lead us in our next year.”
