Jersey’s The Intertidal has won a Racecheck Gold Award following its inaugural event – the fifth highest rated globally.
The award provides independent recognition for the new Jersey race, which launched in August 2026 and saw around 140 runners take on a unique challenge across the Island’s intertidal zone.
Unlike a traditional race, The Intertidal has no prescribed route. Runners must navigate between mandatory checkpoints while working within a race window determined by Jersey’s tides.

The first edition was supported by approximately 40 volunteers and a wide network of local businesses, organisations and event partners.
Participant feedback has been particularly strong around the event’s organisation, safety, atmosphere, volunteers and distinctive setting.
Organiser Sam Wilkes said: “We wanted to create something that could only happen in Jersey, and the reaction from runners has shown that there is real appetite for something different.
“Winning a Racecheck Gold Award in our first year is a huge boost because it comes directly from verified participant feedback. It reflects the work of the volunteers, partners and local organisations who helped bring the event together.
“The most pleasing part is that people did not just enjoy the race itself. They responded to the whole experience, from the landscape and the route choices to the atmosphere and the support around the course.”
He added: “Jersey has an incredible natural environment for events like this. The intertidal zone gives us something genuinely distinctive and the ambition is to build the event carefully while keeping the character that made the first year special.”
