Hundreds of children and young people across Jersey have already had the opportunity to get active this summer thanks to a £8,000 grant from the Jersey Community Foundation to Jersey Sport.
The funding is supporting the charity’s Community Outreach Holiday Programme, delivering seven weeks of free sporting opportunities in partnership with 14 local sports organisations. The programme has already given children and young people the chance to try a new sport, develop skills in a familiar one and stay active during the school holidays, with further activities taking place over the coming weeks.
Part of Jersey Sport’s Sport in the Community initiative, the Community Outreach Holiday Programme has been bringing accessible, inclusive activities into communities across the Island, helping remove barriers to participation and encouraging more children and young people to experience the physical, mental and social benefits of sport.
With several weeks of the summer programme still to come, there are further opportunities for children and young people to get involved in activities taking place across the Island.
Stephanie Douglas, Head of Fundraising and Community Programmes at Jersey Sport, said: We’re incredibly grateful to the Jersey Community Foundation for this generous support, which has enabled us to provide hundreds of children and young people with free opportunities to get active throughout the summer.
“It’s been fantastic to see so many children getting involved in activities across the Island, whether they’re trying a sport for the first time or developing skills in something they already enjoy.”
