Jersey Sport to invest £1 million into local sport in 2026

More than £244,000 has been invested into Jersey’s sporting community, with 35 projects across 23 local organisations receiving Sport Activation funding to create more opportunities for islanders to take part, progress and enjoy sport and physical activity.

The first round of Sport Activation funding has been made possible through investment from the Channel Islands Lottery, alongside the generous legacy left by the late Valerie Guy, whose commitment to supporting local sport continues to create opportunities for clubs, organisations and islanders across Jersey.

From increasing participation and developing coaches and volunteers to improving facilities and strengthening organisations, the funding will help local sport continue to make a positive difference in communities across the island.

This funding represents the latest step towards Jersey Sport’s pledge to invest £1 million into local sport in 2026 – the largest annual investment ever made by the organisation. Following this latest round of Sport Activation funding, a total of £718,933 has now been distributed to local sport this year, supporting projects that will strengthen clubs, develop people and create more opportunities for islanders to be active.

The investment has been awarded across four key funding streams:

  • Increasing Participation: £30,175 supporting projects that create new opportunities for people to get involved in sport and physical activity, particularly those who may face barriers to taking part.
  • Sport Workforce Development: £42,808 helping coaches, officials and volunteers gain new skills, qualifications and experience to enhance sporting opportunities.
  • Professional Workforce: £85,305.95 supporting organisations to build capacity through key roles that will strengthen delivery and develop their sport.
  • Facility Development: £86,488 helping improve sporting environments, making them safer, more accessible and more welcoming for participants, volunteers and visitors.

David Kennedy (pictured), Chief Executive Officer, Jersey Sport, said: “We are proud to be distributing the largest amount of funding in our organisation’s history to Jersey’s sporting community.

“This investment reflects the incredible work taking place across the Island and our confidence in the organisations receiving support. We look forward to seeing the substantial impact this funding will make in creating more opportunities for people to participate, perform, and thrive through sport and physical activity”
