The Medical Specialist Group has appointed Dr Nela-Nicoleta Hotnogu-Srichom as a Consultant Paediatrician.

Bringing extensive experience in acute and high-dependency paediatric care, she joins the MSG with a strong reputation for delivering a compassionate, high-quality service to children and families.

Dr Hotnogu-Srichom (pictured) said: “I chose paediatrics because I have always felt a deep connection to working with children. They are incredibly resilient, but they rely on us, not only for medical care, but also for compassion, protection, and a voice when they cannot always speak for themselves.”

Having come from a small community herself, Dr Hotnogu-Srichom was attracted to Guernsey due to the shared values small communities can offer and the opportunity to make a more direct and meaningful impact with her work.

“MSG also appealed to me because of its strong reputation for high-quality patient care within a community-focused setting,”,” said Dr Hotnogu-Srichom. “On a personal level, Guernsey offers the kind of environment I want for my family – close to nature, with a strong sense of community, safety, and values. The prospect of raising my child in that setting while building a meaningful career made it feel like a very natural fit.”

Dr Hotnogu-Srichom joins MSG from Birmingham Children’s Hospital, one of the UK’s largest specialist children’s hospitals where she cared for children with a wide range of conditionsfrom everyday illnesses to those who are seriously unwell or have complex medical needs.

Before moving to the UK, she worked as a consultant in children’s emergency medicine at a specialist children’s hospital in Bucharest, where she led the emergency care of critically ill children, including those referred from other hospitals.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Hotnogu-Srichom has a strong record of improving the way services run for patients. She led a project that cut waiting times for children with less urgent conditions by 37 per cent, and helped introduce a new digital patient record system at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, making sure it worked well for treating children. She has also taken part in national research, including a major study into bronchiolitis, a common chest infection in babies. Earlier in her career she volunteered with the Doctor’s Caravan, bringing medical care to children in remote rural communities in Romania.

Dr Michelle Le Cheminant, Chair of the MSG, added: “We are pleased to have Dr Hotnogu-Srichom on the team. Her depth of clinical expertise, commitment to innovation, and passion for advocating for children align perfectly with our values. We’re confident that she will make a significant contribution to paediatric care in Guernsey and provide exceptional support to both our young patients and their families.”
