Mourant supports schools snorkel trail education programme in Jersey for another year

Mourant has renewed its sponsorship of Blue Marine Foundation’s schools snorkel trail education programme in Jersey for a further year.

The continued sponsorship builds on over five years of collaboration between Mourant and the marine conservation non-profit.

Delivered annually to pupils in Years 5 and 6, Blue Marine’s education programme combines classroom learning with pool-based training and supervised sea snorkelling, giving children direct access to the island’s marine environment while developing confidence, skills and awareness of ocean conservation.

Since the introduction of the education outreach programme in Jersey in 2022, participation has expanded significantly. The initiative has grown from reaching approximately 180 pupils in its first year to approximately 350 children across nine primary schools this summer. After this July, the programme will have reached over 1,500 students since conception, covering all of the island’s primary schools.

As part of the Blue Marine and Mourant partnership, the firm also recently donated snorkel equipment to over 100 pupils at D’Auvergne and First Tower primary schools in St Helier, to encourage them to engage directly with Jersey’s unique marine environment outside of Blue Marine’s snorkel training.

Daniel Birtwistle, Jersey Managing Partner at Mourant, said: “Our continued support for Blue Marine reflects our firm’s long-term commitment to marine education, ocean conservation and community engagement in Jersey. We understand how important it is to empower the next generation through education, helping young people build a meaningful connection with the ocean and understand why protecting it matters.”

Freddie Watson, Channel Islands Project Manager at Blue Marine Foundation, added: “Mourant’s commitment has been fundamental in allowing us to reach over 1,500 Jersey schoolchildren through our snorkel trail education programme. This ongoing sponsorship has built an incredible foundation of ocean advocates, and we are delighted to have Mourant’s support for a landmark fifth year to continue inspiring the younger generations, while helping them to explore and connect with the island’s extraordinary marine environment in both a safe and responsible way.”
