The Planning Committee has approved the application for the St Helier Skatepark and Cycle Park.
This decision enables the Government of Jersey to move forward with delivering an interim, accessible skate facility in the east of town while longer‑term proposals for Fort Regent continue to be developed. The subsequent adaptation into a cycle park ensures there is long term community benefit.
Over recent months, the project team has undertaken extensive consultation with key stakeholders, including the Jersey Skateparks Association, Driver and Vehicle Standards, the Parish of St Helier, utility providers, community groups and heritage bodies. Their feedback has helped ensure that the design balances the needs of skatepark and cycle park users with the considerations of residents, road safety, ecological impact and the protection of important infrastructure.
With approval now granted, the next steps include finalising design details, coordinating construction planning, and preparing the site so that work can begin. The facility will be designed so that its equipment can be reused in the future, supporting the broader ambition to provide high‑quality skate facilities across the Island.
Constable Andy Jehan, Minister for Infrastructure, said: “I welcome this approval, which allows us to provide a much‑needed facility for young people and families in St Helier. The project team has worked carefully with stakeholders to ensure the design is safe, considerate of neighbours, and aligned with our longer‑term plans for Fort Regent. This skatepark is an important step in meeting community needs and offering a positive space for active, healthy recreation.”
