Welcome to our series, ‘Meet the Team’, where we meet the people behind the business in the Channel Islands.

Today, we’re delighted to be talking to Michelle Le Blond, Bank Branch Manager for Butterfield in Jersey, to learn more about her role and what inspires her.

Tell us about your background and journey to your current role

I’m proud to have built a 28-year career in finance, starting out as a Private Client Administrator before progressing through roles in settlements and custody, client services and account management in Private Wealth. I later moved into project management, focusing on regulatory and Lean Management programmes before becoming Branch Manager for Butterfield in June 2024.

What’s the most interesting thing about your work?

The variety. I really appreciate that no day is ever the same. I thrive on being kept on my toes while driving business growth, supporting the introduction of new and innovative products and motivating and developing people to reach their full potential.

Butterfield is a dynamic environment and that keeps work engaging and purpose-driven. I am proud to be part of a team that adapts and evolves to deliver exceptional services to corporate clients while continuing to build a compelling local retail offering for residents which currently includes mortgages, savings and credit cards.

What motivates you to get up and come to work every day?

People! I am genuinely motivated by people – whether it is supporting their development or being part of a collaborative team that drives growth. At Butterfield there is a shared purpose in building the business and I love being part of that journey.

I find it really rewarding to take on new challenges together with a strong team. It keeps me engaged and driven. I really love what I do and it is great to work for a company that empowers individuals and values their contribution to the bigger picture. It is exciting to be part of Butterfield’s journey and to see the positive difference we can make for islanders.

What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?

I am supporting strategic growth at Butterfield while ensuring we remain agile and client-focused in an ever-changing financial environment. There is a big focus on innovation and service enhancement, which means we are streamlining processes and systems to make the client experience easier and more efficient for our local community.

Tell us about Butterfield’s product offering

In Jersey, Butterfield is on an ambitious journey to become the go-to full-service bank for both local residents and corporate clients. That means, we are expanding our range of personal savings, mortgage and credit card products while continuing to enhance services for corporate clients. Our focus is on identifying market gaps and providing tailored financial solutions. As a sidenote: anyone interested can speak with our local team or visit our website to learn more!

What do the next few years look like for your business and your role?

For Butterfield, we are currently focused on adapting to evolving client needs while embracing innovation. For me personally, it is about leading change while maintaining the human touch that sets us apart.

What is the best thing about working at Butterfield?

Probably the culture: this is because you are part of a team, but more importantly you are also part of a corporate culture that values people, integrity and service.

There is a genuine spirit of collaboration here. Everyone’s input is valued and there is a strong emphasis on both personal and professional development, which makes it a great place to grow.

As for my role, being Branch Manager allows me to combine my leadership skills with my love for building relationships – both within the team and with our customers.

I am passionate about driving efficiency, delivering great service and building strong teams.

What do you do with your free time?

I really value my time with my family – we love playing cards and board games together. We enjoy beach and cliff path walks with our dogs and one of my favourite rituals is Saturday breakfast with my daughter, which gives us time to catch up on what is going on in her world.

We also love home movie nights and, when we have time, cooking up a storm with my husband, experimenting with new dishes and flavours. Holidays are a chance to explore different countries together, embrace new cultures and make lasting memories.
