The Butterfield Charitable Trust – Channel Islands has allocated more than £80,000 worth of grants to a number of local charities that support the needs of the community in Guernsey and Jersey.

The Butterfield Charitable Trust was opened for applications last year to provide funding to registered charities for special projects or programmes that deliver a significant benefit to the people of Guernsey and Jersey, with a focus on community support, environmental protection and promoting inclusivity.

Richard Saunders, Butterfield’s Managing Director for the Channel Islands & the UK, said: “We are delighted to see the first grant allocations be awarded to a number of deserving local charities. This initiative is very much in line with our continued commitment to the local community, and we are pleased to be able to help provide funding to those who make a difference to the lives of others.”

The Major Grant programme, which offers amounts of £10,000 or more, has been awarded to two local charities. In Guernsey, Headway will use the funds to support cognitive modules for those living with a serious brain injury, helping to teach new skills and coping strategies. In Jersey, Healing Waves, which delivers life-changing ocean therapy for individuals living with disabilities, conditions and mental health struggles, will be supporting funding one specialist worker to assist with their Spring/Summer sessions this year.

The Small Grant programme, which offers amounts of £10,000 or less, has been awarded to Art in the Frame Foundation, Brighter Futures, Jersey Employment Trust, Project Linus UK and Wetwheels in Jersey. Action for Children, Guernsey Welfare Service, St. John Guernsey and The Village at Le Murier are the Guernsey-based recipients. Guernsey Friends of Maggie’s also received a grant which covers service users from across the Channel Islands.

Applications are reviewed and assessed annually by the fully independent Charitable Trust Committee and according to key criteria, including the ability to measure outcomes and impact, to ensure a fair process. For those interested, applications for grants will re-open on 1st January 2026.
