In a thrilling display of sportsmanship and skill, Jersey emerged triumphant in the Annual Inter Insular Pétanque competition against Guernsey, marking their 20th victory in this prestigious event.
The contest took place on August 26th at the Carrefour Pétanque Club in Grouville.
Since 1987, both teams have fiercely competed for this coveted trophy. The current holders, Jersey, have an impressive record with 20 wins, 13 losses, one draw, and one year when the match couldn’t be played.
The competition featured a format of 12 games of Singles, followed by 12 games of Doubles, and concluded with 4 games of Triples. Jersey’s performance included victories in 8 singles, 10 doubles, and three triples matches. Points were awarded for each category, with one point for singles, two for doubles, and three for triples. In case of a tie, the winner was determined based on the individual points difference from each game. However, this year, Jersey secured a clear win with a score of 37 to 11 points.
The team also introduced their new kit after a successful debut at the Home Nations competition in Leamington Spa in August, where they outperformed Scotland and Wales, securing the runner-up position behind the formidable England Squad.
Looking forward to the future, Jersey is excited to host the Home Nations competition in August of next year. Once again, the team will proudly wear their Jersey shirts as they aim to continue their journey of success in the world of pétanque.
Pétanque Jersey thanked sponsor Snap Design & Digital for their unwavering support.
