Mourant, the law firm-led professional services business, has maintained its top tier ranking in the Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Guide 2023.
The Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Guide differentiates the best legal talent in international private wealth by ranking law firms and lawyers in this area globally. The rankings are widely acknowledged as the definitive mark of excellence across the sector.
In the 2023 guide, Mourant’s Jersey-based International Trusts and Private Client team maintains a Band 1 ranking in Offshore: Trusts in Jersey. A commentator describes the team as a “tightly knit, impressive team across the world”, with Chambers observing that Mourant is “a recognised Jersey practice for offshore trust matters.”
The Mourant Guernsey practice achieved a Band 2 ranking in the directory. Feedback praises the “super competent team” which is “able to deal with complex and challenging matters.” The team is also described as “professional and proactive.”
Also in the 2023 guide, eight Mourant lawyers from across the firm’s Guernsey, Jersey and London offices have been individually recognised in the trust and private client practitioner ranking tables.
Mourant Senior Partner and leading trust litigator, Jonathan Speck (pictured), is named as a Star Individual. In the guide Jonathan is described as having “an extremely high profile”, while another observes: “When Jonathan speaks, the court listens.”
Mourant Head of International Trusts and Private Client, Edward Devenport, maintained his top tier Band 1 ranking, and is described by a source as “extremely knowledgeable” who has “the awareness to deal with complex, sensitive issues in a professional and empathetic manner.”
Joint Global Practice Leader for Litigation, Bruce Lincoln, is recognised as an experienced trusts litigator who is “very good at looking at the overall strategy of a matter”, while Senior Associate Chiara Mundy is named as an Associate to Watch and described as “good technically, and very smart.”
In addition to longstanding top tier rankings in the Chambers UK and Global Guides in the area of Dispute Resolution, Partner Jeremy Wessels is recognised in this year’s High Net Worth Guide. A commentator notes: “Jeremy is one of the premier litigators on the island; he has an astonishing reputation in the contentious space.”
In Guernsey, Partner Christopher Edwards is also noted for his litigation expertise, including in trust litigation. An interviewee comments: “Chris is excellent.”
