Jersey Recovery College’s Mental Health at Work programme is expanding its reach in 2023 with a new client and a new programme.

Local airline Blue Islands has chosen Jersey Recovery College to deliver a mental health training programme which is offered to all its employees. This new course for Mental Health at Work is called First Aid for Mental Health, and involves training employees to recognise the symptoms of someone who is suffering from a mental health issue and give them the tools to be able to help, support and signpost that person.

The first two-day course was delivered by a trained JRC practitioner alongside a peer with lived experience of mental health issues to an initial cohort of eight Blue Islands employees last week.

One attendee commented: “Thank you for the very powerful course. I think it’s fair to say everyone has taken a lot more than expected away from this; showing up as our authentic selves is a key part of our safe and supportive environment. It definitely highlights just how ‘human’ we all are.”

Nancy Thomas, Head of Development at JRC said: “We are proud to be partnering with Blue Islands and thoroughly enjoyed delivering our newest course, First Aid for Mental Health to its team as we expand our programme delivery through 2023.”

Rob Veron (pictured), CEO Blue Islands said: “We understand the importance of ensuring a mentally healthy workplace. By April, 70% of our team will have completed our mental health first aider programme; one element of a number of company-wide wellbeing initiatives available to every employee.”

Jersey Recovery College is aiming to grow their Mental Health at Work programme by 80% in 2023 with the aim of helping more Jersey businesses to have a mentally healthy workplace culture.
