JTC partnered with UK-based landscape artist Tony Parsons recently as part of a local school initiative in Jersey to deliver a series of unique live workshop sessions.

Tony, originally from Brighton in the UK, was visiting Jersey ahead of his 2022 exhibition, which showcases his latest landscape work inspired by Jersey’s unique coastline, the surrounding waters and world-famous heritage sights.

Whilst he was on the island, JTC worked with Tony by supporting his live school workshops (15 th – 16 th March), including creating art packs for students featuring a number of artist tools and utensils, all with the aim of helping to inspire the next generation of artists.

Tony visited and delivered workshops at four local schools – Highlands College, Victoria College, JCG, Les Quennevais – where he showed how compositions are created, demonstrated tricks of the trade and discussed how to become a professional artist. Whilst painting a scene from St. Brelade’s Bay, Tony was able to teach the techniques he uses and encourage students to be inspired by their local surroundings.

The partnership with Tony aligns with JTC’s focus on supporting young people in communities where it operates around the world, with a view to enabling them to achieve their ambitions and reach their potential.

JTC’s Senior Director, Private Client Services, Robert Monticelli, whose daughter is an art teacher in Jersey, presented art packs to all of the art students in Year 10 at Les Quennevais School, allowing them to join in and create their own sketches live with Tony. Robert commented: “The session with Tony gave the students a real insight into the life of an artist. He was very open and engaging and demonstrated new techniques. It has been great to be able to support the development of potential new artists in our community.”

Tony added: “As part of my promotional work for my exhibition in Jersey, JTC provided me with the opportunity to connect with a number of different schools on the island and give demonstrations to a variety of budding artists. It was huge fun and very life affirming.”
