2020 Bermuda Shorts Week launch party

Bermuda Shorts Week, the much-loved charity event supported by Butterfield, will see hundreds of islanders sport traditional Bermudian business attire from Monday, 28 June 2021 for the week-long fundraising initiative.

In an effort to raise £10,000 for the local charity Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG), which is focused on increasing awareness, promoting education and helping those affected by prostate, bowel and testicular cancer, the event invites everyone to get involved by wearing Bermuda shorts and socks to work.

Butterfield will be supplying free pairs of Bermuda socks for the first 200 sign-ups, which can be collected from their Regency Courts office after sign up. Butterfield will also be sponsoring the Bermuda Shorts Week breakfast launch party which provides a free breakfast to all sign-ups, taking place on 28 June at The Boathouse.

To take part in Bermuda Shorts Week, participants are required to pay a registration fee that goes towards providing a continued supply of sun cream to local schools and education about the risk of sun exposure. The charity is hoping to reach its £10,000 fundraising target by getting 500 men and women signed-up to the initiative, through an individual sign-up fee of £20 or through a corporate sign-up fee of £250.

Mike Richards, Council Member at MUG said: “We always look forward to Bermuda Shorts Week in our fundraising calendar.  Not only is it a fun and visual way for the community to show their support but it also raises invaluable funds and awareness for what we do. As charities continue to experience the impact of the pandemic, we are incredibly thankful to Butterfield for its continued support and the anticipated support from the Guernsey community as a whole – protecting the children of the Bailiwick is important to us all”.

Lindsay Ozanne, Managing Director of Butterfield Trust in Guernsey said: “With our headquarters in Bermuda, supporting this initiative is a fitting way to support our local community while giving a nod to our business’ roots. Many of our employees enjoy getting involved, including our Jersey colleagues, who will also be joining in across the water on the Friday. We can’t wait to see the office and town awash with shorts and socks this summer”.
