Channel Island postgraduate students, whose studies focus on the protection and improvement of island environments, are invited to apply for the Butterfield Post-Graduate Scholarship.

With a goal of helping improve the natural environments of the communities in which it operates, and to promote the pursuit of higher education, Butterfield annually offers one deserving post-graduate student from across the ten jurisdictions where it has operations, the chance to receive a scholarship worth $25,000 USD per year for up to four years.

Last year’s post-graduate scholarship recipient was Bermudian Chanah Bremar (shown in main picture), who was enrolled in a Master of Science programme in Sustainable Energy at the University of Glasgow.  Chanah is interested in expanding her knowledge of sustainable energy systems and applying learnings from her Master’s and previously obtained undergraduate degree in Engineering to a career in Bermuda’s energy industry.

Chanah said: “I’m pleased that Bermuda is taking steps towards a sustainable future and there is more to be done. I am determined to help the island reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy, moving to a more sustainable future of clean energy generation.”

Richard Saunders, Managing Director, Channel Islands said: “Environmental conservation and development sits at the heart of Butterfield’s corporate social responsibility focus. The protection of the beautiful islands we call home is important to each and every one of us. In a post-Covid world, offshore jurisdictions have a fantastic opportunity to align long-term environmental and economic objectives.

“Chanah is a wonderful example of how the younger generation are leading the way toward positive environmental change. We’re proud to support aspiring students like her as they follow their goals of helping create greener world”.
