A new online hub promoting staycations in the Bailiwick of Guernsey has had 12,000 visits in one week.
The Bailiwick Staycation Club was launched by the island’s government as part of a campaign called Summer Starts Here. The initiative aims to promote local hospitality and tourism businesses, which have been hit hard by lockdown and travel restrictions.
‘It is going to be a really difficult year for a lot of people and businesses, but we are at least fortunate that we live in such a beautiful place with so much to explore and enjoy. We hope that everyone takes this opportunity to rediscover all their islands and take the time to learn a little more about what makes them so special,’ said Ant Ford Parker from Outdoor Guernsey, which is involved in the initiative.
‘There will be many offers and new things to try from all the hospitality and tourism or leisure businesses and it will be vital to the recovery of all of us, in many ways, to support them.’
More than 100 businesses have signed up to the online hub, which provides listings for places to stay and eat, and things to do, as well as special offers.
Deputy Joe Mooney, the tourism lead for the Committee for Economic Development said: ‘I had no doubt islanders would be quick to explore the options available for staycations within the Bailiwick this summer. To see the campaign generating somuch interest for hospitality firms is really encouraging. If you haven’t started thinking about your plans for a summer break, it’s the perfect place to start. I think a lot of us will be really impressed by the choices on offer.’
