Three amateur chefs are hoping they’ve got the winning recipe for the ultimate burger for Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa’s menu.
Lucy Schooling, Andrew Scott-Miller and Alex Gale are all finalists in the hotel’s mouth-watering competition to find the best gourmet burger in town.
- Lucy Schooling is hoping to impress the judges with her ‘Delicious Goat’ burger, a home-made beef patty with diced sundried tomatoes, topped with goat’s cheese mixed with fresh thyme and honey, Parma ham, rocket, spinach and melted cheese then drizzled with balsamic glaze and garlic aioli.
- Andrew Scott-Miller wants to wow with his ‘Grand Jersey Surf N Turf’ burger, a minced Jersey beef patty topped with roughly cut Jersey lobster covered in a thick burnt butter and garlic sauce that comes in a ‘burger sized’ milk bun, garnished with a slice of Jersey beef tomato and served with peppered skinny fries with a roasted garlic aioli.
- Alex Gale is the youngest finalist at just eight years old and is hoping the ‘Summer Super Sizzler’ halloumi burger served with lettuce, sweetcorn fritter, pea purée and carrot slices all served in a bun, with pepperoni, cheesy chips and guacamole on the side, proves to be a winning combination.
All three finalists are being invited to the hotel’s Terrace for a cook off on National Burger Day on Thursday 26th August.
Freelance content creator Sara Felton, JEP Features writer Tom Ogg and Cheryl Hanlin, Term Time Family Events & Mentoring Co-Ordinator at Autism Jersey, all have an appetite for good food and have the unenviable task of choosing who will be crowned champion and who will be invited back to The Terrace with three members of their family or friends to enjoy their burger being cooked for them!
Commenting on the competition Shaun McGachan, General Manager said, “All three creations sound absolutely delicious and the judges have a very difficult job ahead of them deciding which should make it onto our menu”
“For every winning burger sold during the month of September Grand Jersey will be donating £1 to Autism Jersey, our charity of choice for this year, so this fun competition will be helping a brilliant local cause too!”
