Deal or no deal, you’ll be thankful to hear that flights will still operate between the UK and the EU following Brexit but what else do travellers need to be aware of?
The team at Bellingham Travel in Jersey have put together some handy tips if you’re looking to travel in 2019 and beyond.
Flights will still operate – even in a no-deal scenario the airlines will still be able to operate flights between the UK and EU.
Ferries and Cruise ships will still sail – all cruise and ferry lines can still sail, plus the majority of them operate under international, rather than EU, rules.
Coach and train journeys can still operate to the EU- coaches and trains are expected to continue to take passengers to and around EU countries as usual.
Visas will not be needed to travel to the EU- Jersey and UK travellers can still visit the EU without a visa. The European Commission has said that from 2021, UK citizens will need to pay a fee of approximately €7 per person for a visa exemption as part of a new electronic travel authorisation system.
Taking pets abroad– In the event of a no-deal, pets would continue to be able to travel from the UK to the EU, but the requirements for documents and health checks would change. It is best to discuss preparations for your pet’s travel four months in advance with a Veterinarian.
Travel insurance is important– whenever and wherever you travel, it is important that you have adequate travel insurance which covers your specific needs, including any known medical conditions or activities you plan to do.
Passports – Check the date your passport expires. When travelling to the EU after 12 April 2019, the UK government recommends that you have six months left on your passport on the date of your arrival in an EU country. You may wish to renew your passport sooner rather than later, in order to make sure you have it in time for your holiday plans.
Package holidays offer the best protection– Customers who book a package holiday with a travel operator will benefit from the most comprehensive consumer protection. If you book a package, your holiday will be protected under the Package Travel Regulations, meaning you have a right to a full refund if your holiday can no longer be provided.
