As weeks go, it’s been quite a start to the New Year!
With the weekend here, let’s take a look back at the first week of 2018, with the most-read stories here at Business Eye CI.
And, as you might expect, it’s the weather which dominated for most people, from the commuters caught up in the rush hour queues to homeowners and businesses left counting the cost of the devastation caused by a mix of very high tides and storm force winds.
It is only right that we join the chorus of others thanking all those who, in whatever capacity, worked to keep the rest of us safe in some incredibly challenging conditions.
We received some incredible video and photographs as the wild weather hit, including from along Jersey’s coast at high tide, and from a garden in Guernsey where it was time to take the dinghy for a ride on an unexpected boating lake!

Also this week, easyJet announced they were launching a twice-weekly summer service from Jersey to Edinburgh, bringing to eight the number of UK destinations they serve from the island.
While in Guernsey, retailers were encouraged to cash in on the specific opportunity offered by cruise ship passengers who arrive on Sundays throughout the tourist season.
We also met the Guernsey company director running the London Marathon for a very special cause, found out why a Jersey wealth management firm is in line for major awards, and we told you about the islanders who’ve launched a new video production firm after attracting the attention of the International Cricket Council.
Not bad for a short week!
Here’s to plenty more to share with you throughout 2018. In the meantime, if you fancy starting the year a winner, enter our competition to win £300 to spend at your favourite Channel Islands restaurant.
