Following the huge success of the event in previous years, the Walkers’ sponsored free Business Summer School will be returning to both Guernsey and Jersey in July.
The programme, aimed at sharing as much careers advice as possible, has been delivered to 250 students to date, and will run in Guernsey for the fifth time and Jersey for the fourth time.
Students will once again be offered the chance to gain a real insight into the world of work whether in financial services, other important key local industries or as an entrepreneur. They will experience a mock board meeting, sessions with accountants, fiduciaries, regulators and bankers, a mock trial before a real judge, an overview of local law and a ‘meet the entrepreneurs’ session. There will also be voluntary behind the scenes tours of the hotel hosting (and also supporting) the event, being the Radisson in Jersey and the OGH in Guernsey and also the Court and States buildings.
Members of the Walkers team, especially their younger lawyers, will be available throughout to share their own experiences in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Students based in London, where Walkers deliver time zone sensitive Cayman, BVI and Bermuda law support to clients in the EMEA region, will also join WBSS for the first time this year.
Fraser Hern, head of Walkers’ Channel Islands business, said: “We are thrilled to be able to continue and expand this initiative, offering support and advice to talented and entrepreneurial individuals during their studies and beyond”.
“Many participants in this and our other schemes have progressed their careers with us, while others have pursued different paths. Regardless of the path chosen, we have strengthened our relationship within the communities we work in and are committed to supporting.”
Head of Walkers’ Guernsey Insolvency & Dispute Resolution team, Alison Ozanne, who runs the programme, added: “There are some amazing career opportunities for young people, but they need to be given the chance to understand and discuss the options and to increase their professional network as they enter the world of work. That is what we aim to achieve with the Walkers Business Summer School.”
