For 2019 VisitGuernsey will be working with the historian and broadcaster Dan Snow, known for his passion and enthusiasm for history throughout the ages. Recognisable from his long-standing broadcast career on the BBC the award-winning personality will join forces with VisitGuernsey to help publicise the spring Heritage Festival and the wider history product offering which attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The Guernsey Heritage Festival runs from 19 April to 10 May 2019 with the theme of Guernsey Encounters – Throughout the Ages. The 2019 festival will look at the island’sinteresting and fast-paced history from 8000BC to the modern day through a series of events, talks and special openings suitable for all ages.
A flagship event will be the talk Dan Snow will hold at the island’s only five-star hotel The Old Government House on 10 May. Dan will share memorable anecdotes and experiences about a career which has seen him being set on fire, gassed, trained as a sniper and contracting hypothermia. Tickets are priced at £60 pp and include wine and canapés on arrival and a five-course banquet themed around an 1887 menu created by the first owner of the hotel John Gardner. In addition, Dan will be out and about exploring some of the island’s history from Neolithicsites to bunkers that mark the German Occupation of WWII and bringing these locations and their stories to life through a series of videos that will be hosted on the VisitGuernseywebsite and across social channels. The aim of this is to introduce Guernsey’s fascinatingand unique history to new audiences in an entertaining and informal way.
Dan will be recording an exclusive podcast from the island and filming several video segments for his new online history channel, History Hit TV.
