The Board of Directors of Visit Jersey has announced that current Non-Executive Director Martin George will be appointed as Non-Executive Chair on 2 June 2025 when current Non-Executive Chair Lisa Springate retires.
Martin George (pictured) joined the Visit Jersey Board in January 2024 and is an established international marketing leader, having held previous director and board roles at Waitrose, Bupa, and British Airways. He was selected following an open process overseen by the Jersey Appointments Commission.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. George said: “It will be an honour to take on this role and succeed Lisa, whose leadership has been so valuable to the Visit Jersey Board, executive team, and industry.
“Since joining the board, I have been continually impressed and inspired by the opportunities that exist for Jersey’s visitor economy. I look forward to working closely with the executive team, led by Chief Executive Tricia Warwick, to continue driving growth and enhancing the island’s appeal as a vibrant tourism destination.”
Martin George started his career in marketing at Cadbury, followed by 19 years at British Airways with roles in marketing, commercial, and general management, eventually becoming the airline’s Commercial Director and a member of the Board.
Martin was subsequently Group Development Director at Bupa before joining Waitrose as Customer Director, where he was responsible for marketing and customer experience as well as being a member of the Waitrose Management Board.
In addition to his executive roles, Martin has held several Non-Executive Director positions in the hospitality, sport, and travel sectors, including The Goodwood Group. He also chaired Global Radio’s charity Make Some Noise for ten years and is a School Governor.
Welcoming the appointment, current Non-Executive Chair Lisa Springate said: “I am delighted that the panel has selected Martin to succeed me as chair at this important and exciting time for our island’s visitor economy. Martin’s proven leadership, marketing expertise, and passion for Jersey make him the ideal person to guide Visit Jersey into this next chapter. I am proud of all we have accomplished during my time as Chair, including the delivery of the Visitor Economy Strategy, and I am grateful to the Visit Jersey Board and our stakeholders at Government of Jersey, Ports of Jersey, and the wider industry for their collaboration.”
