The intrepid couple have recently returned from an epic adventure, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness for Dementia Jersey.
Nima and Conor took on the challenging week-long trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. They embarked on this journey to support Dementia Jersey’s mission to provide vital services and support to people in Jersey affected by dementia.
Through their incredible efforts, Nima and Conor have raised over £4,000 for Dementia Jersey. These funds will go towards funding essential programs and services, including one-on-one support, counselling, support groups, and educational programs.
Nima and Conor were inspired to take on this challenge after seeing the impact dementia can have, not just on the individual with the diagnosis but their carers and family and friends around them and how important and welcomed the support is that Dementia Jersey provides islanders.
Nima commented: “I couldn’t recommend Mount Kilimanjaro enough to anyone – it is by far the hardest challenge I have ever had to do but also the most rewarding. To have overcome the mental and physical challenges that the trek presents is such an achievement – it just proves you really can overcome anything you put your mind to. Although challenging, the views you get along the way are a good distraction – they are so varied and truly incredible. The porters and guides play a huge part in the experience – they were all so caring and motivating which is just the cherry on top!
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to make a difference and contribute to the amazing work of Dementia Jersey. The support we received from friends, family, and the community has been overwhelming. We’re thrilled to have exceeded our fundraising goals and support the invaluable work that Dementia Jersey does within our community.”
Nadine Jagger, Income and Engagement Coordinator, Dementia Jersey, commented: “We’re incredibly grateful to Nima and Conor for choosing to raise money for Dementia Jersey. They have achieved so much by taking on this challenge and raising such an incredible amount. Their efforts will make a real difference to the work we do, providing essential services and support to people in Jersey affected by dementia.”
Dementia Jersey has a group trek going to Mount Kilimanjaro between 7th and 16th September and are inviting any islanders looking for an epic challenge to get in touch. All money raised will help support people in Jersey living with dementia and their families and carers.
