Tim’s Jersey Roads Challenge – the final mile

Tim Ringsdore CEO of the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority has completed his challenge of walking every road in Jersey to raise awareness and money for two charities, the JSPCA and Jersey Autism, with a final walk along Jersey Airport’s mile-long runway.

Accompanied by friends and family, Tim walked the length of the runway on the evening of Friday 26 August to complete the challenge he set himself at the start of the year.

Since putting his first foot forward on the Challenge Tim has covered over 700 miles to cover the 466 miles of official roads, which resulted in 1,360,000 steps which is the equivalent of walking from St Malo to Madrid all to raise awareness and funds for the JSPCA and Autism Jersey.

A keen walker, Tim has taken part in the Island Walk for many years and wanted to undertake something a little unique in the hope to raise awareness for these charities and hopefully some money that will help the charities efforts in Jersey.

In completing the Challenge, Tim smashed his fundraising target of £1000 for each charity, ultimately raising over £5,000 which will be split evenly between them.

Along the way he has been joined by many friends and colleagues, including Police Chief Robin Smith, who accompanied Tim ‘on the beat’ around the streets of St Helier.

Having crossed the finish line, Tim thanked everyone who has supported him by walking with him or donating funds to the charities: “It has been a fantastic
experience, not just because we have raised far more than we hoped, but also because I have seen this beautiful Island from a totally different perspective.

“I am a Jerseyman and have lived here nearly all my life, but by walking every public road I have discovered places I have never been to and enjoyed views I simply did not know existed. It has made me appreciate even more how lucky we are to live in such an amazing place.”

Michelle Parker, JSPCA PR and Fundraising Manager said, “We’re very grateful to the JCRA for the support they have given us as their chosen charity, but in this case, Tim really has gone that extra mile for us!”

Lesley Harrison, Head of Charitable Services for Autism Jersey added, “This has been a magnificent effort on Tim’s part, and I’m sure everyone involved with Autism Jersey will want to express their thanks for this incredible effort.”

Both Lesley and Michelle joined Tim for the final mile along the runway. The JSPCA is the chosen charity for the JCRA for 2022, and Tim personally supports Autism Jersey.
