A new study by consumer group Which? has rated Skyscanner and TripAdvisor as the best travel comparison sites.
More than 2,200 holidaymakers were asked to rate their experiences using holiday comparison sites over the last two years. The categories considered included user-friendliness, price and market coverage.
Skyscanner was rated the best comparison site for flights, with a score of 69%. It was also the only site to score four out of five stars for value for money.
In a separate investigation by Which? Travel, Skyscanner was also pitted against six other flight comparison sites and produced the cheapest price six out of ten times. For a last-minute return flight to Krakow, Skyscanner was at least £60 cheaper than any of its rivals.
TripAdvisor came second in the survey and was top of the list for hotel comparison, and received three stars across all categories.
‘Holidaymakers are known to spend hours and sometimes days looking for the best hotel rates and the best airfares, so for many of us, travel comparison sites are the first port of call,’ said Which? Travel editor Rory Boland.
‘There are really only one or two sites you should consider using though if you want to save yourself both money and time.’
And the rest…?
In the survey, GoCompare was ranked poorly for its functionality and high prices, receiving a poor customer score of just 45%.
The Which? Travel investigation found that Google Flights only found the cheapest fare once. It also found the most expensive fare three times. When it came to hotel comparison sites, Kayak sourced the cheapest deal in six out of ten hotel searches, although the savings were relatively small.
TravelSupermaket came second, finding the cheapest price on four out of ten occasions, but it also found the most expensive rates on four occasions.
