Choosing your next holiday destination can be a challenge. With so many fantastic choices both close to home and on distant shores, how do you narrow down the options and pick the place that’s right for you? One place that has well and truly shoved it’s way toward the top of my list this year, is beautiful Bali.
Referred to as the ‘Island of the Gods’, this idyllic Indonesian island is home to glorious beaches, soaring volcanoes, ancient temples, rice paddies and vibrant rainforests. Venture into the traditional villages and you’ll also meet some of the most genuine and friendly people in the world. Another thing making Bali a popular destination is that, for such an picturesque island escape, it also offers a pleasant climate in our summer months – ideal for honeymoons or special occasions when the typical favourites such as the Caribbean or the Maldives suffer from their respective hurricane or monsoon seasons.
Across Bali, you will find such diversity in the varying resorts. Popular Seminyak is perhaps the most stylish of Bali’s beach resorts with its pristine white-sand beach and stunning sunsets being nothing short of spectacular. There is still much to be said however for the laid back, surfer’s paradise resorts of Legian and Canggu or Sanur on the south-east coast which is ideal for those seeking water sports but with a more authentic, Balinese flare. Want to escape the crowds? Then perhaps Tembok is for you. Located on Bali’s striking black sand coast, this traditional village is backed by the dramatic landscape of the volcanic peaks and lapped by the azure Indian Ocean waters… a true hidden gem.
Fact for any wellness seekers – Bali has one of the highest densities of spas in the world, boasting around 1,200 spas across the island!
If you can prise yourself away from the stunning coastline, the cultural heart of the island beats in Ubud. With its streets lined with art galleries, craft shops and market stalls, the town is a bustle of Balinese culture. Take the chance to see a traditional Balinese dance performance or escape into the lush rainforest which is scattered with an eclectic combination of ancient temples and luxury hotels. Don’t forget to say ‘hi’ to the monkeys!
Wondering how much spending money you’ll need to eat out? Well a three-course meal for two in a mid-range restaurant would be about IDR 29,700 – that’s roughly £17!
With so much to offer on the island, I find it difficult to suggest staying in just one area, so for a recent client, after having a good chat about the options, I helped her plan a multi-centre stay in Canggu, Uluwatu and Ubud. This is what she had to say about their time in Bali…
“Bali really was an incredible adventure and a dream location. We had a holiday full of memories and amazing experiences. Visiting three areas was a fantastic suggestion from Nicki and made the most of the time we had there. Each location had its own best bits and experiencing the different culture, food and landscapes was wonderful. The locals are very friendly and proud to show you their island. The food is amazing and such good value; you can easily pick up a delicious vegan smoothie bowl or a meat filled pizza! Whatever you want, Bali has it to offer. It’s a safe, friendly, beautiful island and I can’t wait to go back one day. For keen surfers, Bali is a must!”
And if our words haven’t convinced you.. maybe her photos will!
Until next month, Nicki
