The Channel Islands Co-operative Society Limited has raised £2,590 for the Jersey Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ (JSPCA) #SaveOurShelter campaign.

In November and December 2018, the Society supported the campaign by donating 5% of pet food sales to the Animals’ Shelter. This included cat, dog, bird, rabbit and guinea pig food sold across the Island in all Grand Marché, Locale and En Route stores.

The JSPCA, which works to care for Jersey’s unwanted, sick and lost pets and wildlife, launched the campaign in October 2018 to help raise vital funds for the charity.

JSPCA’s Interim Chief Executive Kevin Keen said: “We are so grateful for the support of the Co-op and the boost its donation has made to the #SaveOurShelter campaign. The Co-op does so much for our community and was one of the first to step forward with an offer of assistance when our difficulties were publicised.Over the years there has been an increase in domestic pets and wildlife needing our help, and we welcome any donations or volunteers to help us to continue to meet this increased demand.”

Channel Islands Co-operative Society’s Chief Executive Officer Colin Macleod added: “I am thrilled that our 5% profit donation raised this sum of money for the Animal Shelter. As a locally-owned retailer, we want to make a real difference to our Island communities and to help charities like the JSPCA to continue their valuable work. The Shelter offers an amazing service to animals in need of care and we must ensure that the organisation has the funds and resources required.”

It costs almost £2 million to operate the JSPCA Animal Shelter each year. To date, the Shelter has received more than £21,000 in donations to the #SaveOurShelter campaign.

To make a donation to the campaign visit the JSPCA’s JustGiving page: justgiving.com/campaign/saveourshelter. Volunteers can register at jspca.org.je/volunteer.
