Registration for the annual Saffery Rotary Walk has opened for 2023. This will be the 25th walk and will take place on Saturday 10th June 2023.
People can participate as a solo walker or as part of a relay team. Early Bird discounts will be available to individuals who register before the end of January. Registration and details for the family walk starting from either the Chouet or Bordeaux checkpoints will be available from March onward.
Organisers are encouraging islanders to get involved in this year’s landmark walk as a part of their New Year’s resolution. This iconic event is a fantastic opportunity to tick a New Year’s resolution off your list, while giving back to the community.
Lisa Vizia, Director of Saffery Champness, says: “This year is an incredibly special landmark for Saffery Rotary Walk. Going into the New Year, we really hope to see lots of interest from our fellow islanders and a willingness to participate.
“The walk is a part of the island’s heritage and acts as a way of giving back to the local community. For anyone in search of a challenge, we really encourage you to enter and begin your training journey. Not only does the walk provide you with beautiful scenic views of Guernsey’s coastline but it also welcomes you into a community of walkers who share a common goal for the day. The atmosphere on the day is truly unforgettable.
This Guernsey event will also take place in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Rotary in Guernsey. The walk hopes to welcome a record-breaking number of entries while exceeding the previous total raised through sponsorship.
Simon Milsted, from Rotary, shares the importance of the Walk to the chosen charities each year: “Over the last 24 years the Walk has raised an incredible £920,000 for a wide variety of Bailiwick charities who themselves do so much for so many right here in our local community. The donations we make to them for their projects are only possible because of the determined and charitable attitude of the participants and the people who sponsor them.
“We are so proud to be part of the celebrations for this 25th Walk, especially during such a significant year for Rotary as we commemorate 100 years of service in our island. We look forward to welcoming both returning and new walkers this year and to announcing the chosen charities for 2023 soon. The walk makes for the perfect New Year’s resolution, acting as a physical and mental challenge to conquer so please register now and start training.”
