Les Amis will mark World Down Syndrome Day this Saturday.
The organisation will highlight its work supporting adults with learning disabilities and helping them stay connected and visible in their communities.
The theme for this year’s campaign is Together Against Loneliness and how it impacts people with Down syndrome. Les Amis runs a social club for its residents and service users that meets for regular activities and provides a sense of community, and the Les Amis Choir holds performances throughout the year.
As usual islanders are being urged to wear their brightest non-matching combinations of socks and support this year’s call to tackle loneliness among islanders with learning disabilities.
Paul Routier MBE, Chair of Les Amis Limited and Trustee, said: “Loneliness can have a greater impact on people with learning disabilities which is why it is so important to make sure that they are integrated into the community as far as possible. At Les Amis we do this through our group and assisted living homes and through the activities the Social Club and Les Amis Choir put on throughout the year.
“We are extremely fortunate in Jersey to receive the recognition and support by the community, however higher living and operational costs provide a constant challenge for our charity.”
