The School of Popular Music is getting a technology upgrade for their RSL Level 3 award in the Creative Music Industry, with support from Sure.
The twilight course, offered by The School of Popular Music (SOPM) in partnership with the Guernsey Institute, was launched due to the music school’s passion about giving students the opportunity to gain a qualification that can open the door to university.
The school will be updating the computers to state-of-the-art Apple iMacs with the latest creative software as the music school’s current computers are now incompatible with the students’ needs. SOPM’s students use the computers to edit the tracks they have recorded in the school’s studio, and to edit music videos that bring their songs to life. The new technology will be in place in time for September when the course begins.
Founded in Guernsey in 2013, SOPM is an award-winning music school renowned for its unique and comprehensive approach to music education. They expanded into Jersey in 2021, ensuring that everyone in the Channel Islands has the option to receive expert music tutelage.
Mike Fawkner-Corbett, Head of Consumer at Sure, said: “Music, like so much of our modern lives, has undergone a digital revolution, and SOPM’s students want to take full advantage of that. Providing these latest iMacs will give them the tools they need to express their talent in new and exciting ways.
“Music has such power to connect people, and SOPM is helping young people to discover a new passion, which ultimately benefits our whole community. Perhaps Guernsey’s next professional musician is enrolled in SOPM, and this technology might help them realise their potential. Even if music ultimately ends up a fulfilling hobby for the students, we’re pleased to play our part in supporting them.”
Tyler Edmonds, Founder and Director at SOPM, said: “The main area we have struggled with lately is production, our current computers were too old, slow and no longer suited our needs. The support that Sure has given us allows us to offer state-of-the-art technology for our students who are not only learning to edit music, but also those undertaking the RSL Level 3 course, which will help them develop coaching skills within music and the arts.
“With these new resources, our students will be able to develop their creative skills and produce professional-quality work. Sure’s contribution is a fantastic boost for SOPM, and it’ll have a really positive impact on our students’ learning experience.”
