Sure Community Foundation enables flexible working

The Sure Community Foundation has donated five new laptops to the Guernsey Employment Trust (GET) to allow for flexible working.

GET is a local charity that creates employment opportunities for disabled people and assists them in preparing for, finding and maintaining work in Guernsey. While the island was in lockdown, the GET team were forced to work from home which meant they had to borrow equipment to ensure work could continue. Post-lockdown, the charity wanted to introduce flexible working but did not have the resources to do this.

The Sure Community Foundation, the charitable enterprise of the telecoms company Sure, donated five laptops to the charity to support this new way of working. The Foundation, which launched in Guernsey in 2012, is purely funded by a combination of staff and business donations and all its management and fundraising activities are carried out by Sure employees.

Nikki Ioannou-Droushiotis, Chief Executive of GET said: “We are very thankful to Sure for providing five laptops to the team.  Our services are people focused, offering individualised one-to-one support.  During lockdown the ability to provide remote support was made possible by staff borrowing laptops from the Digital Greenhouse and taking home their desk PC’s. This experience taught us that there are many benefits to a more agile approach.

“However, without Sure’s donation, we did not have the resources available to make long-term sustainable changes to our working practices. Thanks to the five laptops Sure has kindly donated, we will now be able to offer increased flexibility to our staff which will better utilise our resources and create more accessible support for our clients”.

Karen Jagger of the Sure Community Foundation said: “We are so pleased that Nikki from GET got in touch with us as and we were able to help. This charity plays a significant role in our community by making sure that everyone has the same opportunities within the workforce.

“The Foundation was founded so that it could provide support for those who needed it most. It has been an unusual year for many which is why we have increased our support during 2020 and we continue to encourage all charities to get in touch with us if they identify a need within our community”.
