The 2025 Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon took place yersterday, marking its 20th anniversary, with another successful event celebrated by participants, organisers and the local community.
Welcoming runners of all ages and abilities, with many travelling from abroad, this year’s race day attracted in excess of 2,200 entrants across the Marathon, Marathon Relay and Marathon Mile. This year saw the highest number of Marathon Mile runners. Visiting Liverpool Football Club Legend Emile Heskey also supported and cheered on runners from the sidelines.
The winners were as follows:
- Simon Kimtai Kwarat was the first male to cross the marathon finishing line, achieving a time of 2hrs 17mins 1sec.
- Alice Braham was the first female with a time of 2hrs 40mins 47secs, setting a new female course record (since 2013).
- Team Jersey Spartan AC Endurance was the fastest in the five-person Relay (2hrs 38mins 53secs).
- Team Jersey Distance Runners was the fastest two-person Relay (2hrs 27mins 51secs).
- Emil Friedrich, age 14, was the fastest to complete the Marathon Mile in just 5mins 9secs.
Starting and finishing at Weighbridge Place in St Helier, the international event continues to harness the superpower of sport to unite the island, promote health and wellbeing, and raise essential funds for charity. Over the past 20 years, the Marathon has grown steadily, from around 300 runners back in 2006, to thousands in the following years.
After the introduction last year of a Trainer Drop-Off initiative, resulting in 80 pairs of trainers being donated to charities by runners at the end of the race, this year saw a Jumper Drop-Off scheme as well to improve even more the environmental and social impact of the event. Runners donate their unwanted, in-good-condition jumpers and trainers. With hundreds of people on the island using the charities’ clothing support all year round, these valuable donations and generosity help enormously.
The marathon plays a critical role in raising funds for charity. Participants raise money for local charities that are close to their hearts or for Standard Chartered’s Futuremakers initiative, which tackles inequality for young people in communities and promotes greater economic inclusion.
Standard Chartered Jersey continues to enjoy a long-standing relationship with St John Ambulance Jersey, whose fully trained and equipped volunteers have delivered any required first aid cover for this event over the many years.
Henry Baye, CEO of Standard Chartered Jersey, said: “We are incredibly proud of how the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon has evolved over the past two decades to now celebrate its 20th anniversary, offering locals and visiting runners alike a community focussed event that brings people together for charitable causes close to their hearts.
“I’d like to extend a huge well done to all our participants and a big thank you to our volunteers, event organisers and everyone in Jersey who played their part to make this running event so special.”
