Students in Jersey are being asked for their thoughts on the future of the island’s finance industry, through a new competition organised by Jersey Finance.

The ‘Finance 2061’ competition is open to all local students in Years 11-13 and is designed to get an insight into what they see as being the key issues shaping financial services generally and Jersey’s biggest industry.

With 2061 being the 100thanniversary of the finance industry in Jersey, students are being asked to write 500 words setting out how they feel the finance industry might evolve over the coming decades and what the main challenges might be for the industry.

The focus, scope and style of the piece is up to students, with the overall winner of the competition being selected based on the originality and presentation of their work.  The winner will receive a £500 voucher for the iQ shop in St Helier as well as £500 for their school. The winning piece will also be published through Jersey Finance’s social media channels.

The judging panel for the competition will be:

  • Claire Lyons, Senior Campaign Manager, Jersey Finance;
  • Lewis Bush, Archisle Jersey Photographer in Residence, who is currently focussing on Jersey’s finance industry in the context of Brexit
  • Kevin Keen, Founder, Leadership Jersey.

Commenting on the initiative, Geoff Cook, CEO Jersey Finance, said:

“As a forward-thinking jurisdiction, we’re very aware that our local students are the future of our industry and it’s so important that we engage with them as best we can. Getting their thoughts on how they perceive our finance industry and how they see it evolving will be fascinating in itself but it will also be really important in how we map out our future activity.

“This initiative is an exciting first for us and we really hope that it inspires students from all schools to put their ideas on paper.”

To enter, students need to send their entries to [email protected], along with their name, the name of their school and what year they are in, by the deadline of Friday 26 October. Further information can be found at www.jerseyfinance.je/finance-2061
