Students across the islands have been celebrating their exam results today, Thursday 13th August.
Across Jersey, the overall pass rate was 98.7% of all A Levels taken by Jersey students. Students achieved 25.0% at A* and A, and 79.4% for A* to C passes. 574 Jersey students were entered for 1,610 A Level examinations.
These results compare to England, where 78.1% were graded at C and above, and 28.3% at the highest grades A/A*.
Comparisons between Jersey and England should be treated with caution. Jersey students were entered for 1,610 A Levels, compared with 835,606 in England. Percentages derived from smaller sample sizes are much more sensitive to minor variations, whereas national results are drawn from a considerably more robust dataset.
Victoria College
Victoria College Sixth Form students were welcomed into the Great Hall to receive their A Level and other Level 3 qualification results. Staff offered support and guidance to the boys as they make the next important decisions about their futures.
Prior to any potential uplifts seen through examination reviews and resits, Victoria College’s results were as follows: 12% A*, 30% A*-A, 56% A*-B and 81% A*-C. 20% of students achieved a grade profile including at least 3 A*s or As, and 10% of the cohort attained at least 2 A*s in their grade profile.
Over 99% of all qualifications were passed at A*-E. For those students applying to university, 97% secured places at their first or insurance choice destinations.
Headteacher Dr Gareth Hughes said: “I am delighted for this year’s Upper Sixth students and enormously proud of all they have accomplished. Their time at Victoria College has been defined by determination, resilience and a willingness to embrace challenge. The results they receive today are the product of sustained hard work over many years and are thoroughly deserved. These students have led by example, supported one another and played a full part in the rich life of the school. They leave Victoria College as capable, confident and compassionate young people, ready to make their mark on the world.”
Highlands College
Highlands College Level 3 Sixth Form students attained excellent results with 99% passing their professional and technical qualifications at the same level as A-levels. Almost 90% have already secured progression directly into employment, university, or are continuing programmes at Highlands College.
Vice Principal, Kate Hobbs praised the students: “We are delighted to celebrate another year of excellent outcomes for our students. Their achievements are the result of hard work, determination and a willingness to embrace new challenges. We are committed to helping every student reach their potential, and it is rewarding to see so many progressing to exciting opportunities in higher education, apprenticeships and employment. We congratulate all our students and look forward to seeing what they achieve next.”
Ladies’ College
Guernsey’s Ladies’ College A level results had a 100% pass rate, 80% A*-B and 46% A*-A. 97% of the students were accepted to their chosen university, with others progressing into work.
Daniele Harford-Fox, Principal at The Ladies’ College, said: “I’m so proud of every student receiving their results today. Behind every grade is a story of hard work and a young person who has been supported to find her area of passion and determine the impact she wants to have on the world.
“These results are a real credit to each of our girls as individuals. They’re heading out into a world that’s changing fast, and I’ve no doubt the skills, creativity and resilience they’ve built here will stand to them, whatever path they choose.”
