Six members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Jersey branch have been recognised for their contribution to the STEP Jersey Branch committee, for a combined total of over 50 years.

Retiring from the STEP Jersey branch committee in 2020, six committee members were presented with certificates for Outstanding Contribution and Service at the STEP Jersey 2020 Awards held at the Royal Yacht hotel.

Presenting the certificates, STEP Jersey Branch Chair, Fiona McFarlane, commented: “Our over 1200 members owe a great deal of thanks to our Committee, which brings together industry leaders who volunteer their time and skills for the benefit of the wealth management sector by:

  • Developing a programme of CPD events, ensuring Jersey has professional Trust Practitioners abreast of developments and trends.
  • Involvement in industry groups and the development of legislative changes.

The awards recipients were:

  • Simon Morgan, Vistra, appointed in 2002, leading to STEP Worldwide Chair in 2019 for two years.
  • Anthony Pitcher, LGL Group, appointed in 2007, leading to Deputy STEP Worldwide Chair in January this year.
  • Naomi Rive, Highvern, appointed in 2010, including Jersey Branch Chair for two years.
  • Kerry Emblem, Smith and Williamson, Treasurer since 2016.
  • Oana Crisan Garfield Bennett, appointed in 2014, taking on the role of Student Liaison Officer in 2016.

Jersey STEP Awards for Outstanding Achievement 2020

Jersey’s STEP branch

The Jersey branch of STEP was established in 1993 and is one of the largest and most active in the world.

The Branch is run by a committee of nine professionals drawn from across the island’s wealth management industry.

As an offshore jurisdiction the Branch recognises the importance and value of exposing its membership to outside expertise through monthly CPD seminars and an annual day-long international conference which form the centre piece of the branch’s activities.

At any one time some 300 of the 1,200 members of the Jersey Branch are typically studying towards their STEP qualifications. The STEP Jersey Student Awards scheme rewards those students who excel in their exams.

Branch Committee members sit on several STEP Worldwide boards and committees contributing to the ongoing development of the Society’s aims and objectives. Members are active locally through the Branch’s links with other professional organisations such as the Jersey Association of Trust Companies, Jersey Finance Limited, Trust Law Working Party.
