Source Recruitment launches dual campaign to tackle plastic pollution

Guernsey’s Source Recruitment has launched two new green initiatives to support the island’s fight against plastic pollution. In addition to joining Refill, the national environmental scheme, the team has switched to special reusable water bottles in a bid to reduce plastic waste and generate funds for tackling the cause.

Refill, founded by City to Sea, aims to make refilling reusable bottles with water easy, convenient and free by introducing local businesses as ‘Refill stations’.

Source Recruitment’s High Street office joins the other 52 shops, restaurants and offices around the island that are encouraging the Guernsey community to boost their green credentials and reduce the use of single-use plastics.

In addition to displaying a Refill sticker to indicate to the public that free water refills are available, Source Recruitment is tagged on the Refill App, which shows islanders where their nearest Refill station is located.

Refill Guernsey was founded in 2018 when local-11-year old Destiny Hollyer-Hill approached the States expressing her passion for the initiative. At a local level, the scheme is managed by Plastic Free Guernsey and supported by Guernsey Water and Love Guernsey.

Source Recruitment has also furthered its commitment to conservation by providing its team with special Refill X Chilly’s water bottles. For every Chilly’s X Refill bottle sold, a donation of £2.00 is given back to the Refill Campaign, enabling the charity to continue its work protecting our oceans.

The special bottles are also being gifted to candidates that the agency successfully places in a further bid to reduce Guernsey’s use of plastic bottles.

Rick Martin, Co-Owner of Source Recruitment, says: “It’s fantastic to be involved in the Refill scheme. As a business, we’ve always been extremely committed to supporting both the local community and island environment and this is just another way we’re striving to make a difference.

“As a team, we’re very aware of the impact that plastic pollution has at both a local and global level, so making the switch to reusable bottles has been easy. We felt that gifting our temporary candidates with their own reusable bottles when we placed them was another great way of getting this important message across to the wider community and supporting the charities that are tackling plastic pollution.

Madeleine Norman, from Plastic Free Guernsey, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Source Recruitment to the scheme, it’s such a brilliant example of how people can take action locally to tackle a global problem.

“Having supporters like Source Recruitment on board means that we can spread our message to the wider community and have a more positive impact on the amount of waste we produce.

“We always promote reusing in the first instance. Having a washable, reusable drinks bottle to hand is such a simple swap and, as our water is clean and safe to drink, visiting a Refill station means it’s possible to save money and the planet!”
