Skipton International is urging more local charities and community projects to step forward and apply for a grant from the Skipton Community Fund.
The pan-Island Fund which was launched in 2018 has provided grants to support many not-for-profit projects, but would like to see more applications from Jersey organisations.
One project that has benefited from the Skipton Community Fund is Jersey Youth Trust, who applied for a grant for its Youth Enquiry Service (YES Project). The YES Project provides free confidential information, advice and support to those aged between 14-25 covering issues such as homelessness, education, money, employment and emotional health and wellbeing.
The grant of £1,000 from the Fund has gone towards promotional literature and assisting the organisation with administration expenses as it moves to its new home at The Link in Eagle House.
Sue Fernandes, Senior Youth Worker of the YES Project said: “Jersey Youth Trust are very grateful to the assistance of Skipton International who has helped ease some of the financial burden from moving location. Donations of this kind are invaluable to our charity. With the Fund’s assistance, we have been able to produce new leaflets, posters and banners to promote our services and new contact details as well as promotional materials, mugs and wrist bands to further promote our project in the community.
“As an organisation our goal is to make ourselves more visible and accessible to young people. We hope to achieve this better following our premises move, the extension of our opening hours and the launch of our new website.”
Aaron Walden, Commercial Manager, Skipton International said: “The purpose of the Fund is to support those smaller projects who may not get as much media attention, but who would bring a benefit to the wider community.
“In Guernsey, we have had a real variety of applicants and have supported projects from housing the Christmas nativity scene to sponsoring the costumes for a production of the Wizard of Oz! Community really is at the heart of Skipton’s business, so we are looking for any project that will bring life, colour and joy to our islands.”
