Thanks to the support of Skipton International, the Guernsey Table Tennis Association has been able to give the Island’s Year 3s student the opportunity to take part in a six-week trial of table tennis.
The new Skipton TT Skillz programme has received an overwhelmingly positive response, with 50 children now signed up and all places fully booked.
As part of this programme, each participating child receives a starter kit to help them enjoy the game anywhere – at home, at school, or even on holiday. The kit includes:
- 2 table tennis bats
- 6 balls
- A stretch net (fits on tables of all sizes)
- A Skipton TT Skillz branded T-shirt
- A water bottle
- A convenient string bag
Over the six weeks, GTTA development officer Becks O’Keefe and a team of volunteer coaches will deliver fun and engaging sessions designed to introduce the children to the fundamentals of table tennis. The aim is not just to teach the sport, but to spark a lifelong interest in it.

“We’re thrilled to have the support of Skipton International, which has allowed us to break down barriers and get table tennis bats into the hands of children across the island,” said Becks O’Keefe “This is just the beginning, we hope to welcome many of these children back into our coaching development pathways in September, or at one of our school holiday clubs and most importantly have fun while playing table tennis”
Charlotte Dunsterville, Skipton’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented: “We all understand the importance of sport for children and what better way to help than by enabling the passionate team at GTTA to bring this project to fruition. Skipton proudly supports community initiatives within the islands in which we operate, and we can’t wait to see what engagement these sessions will bring.”
