Skipton International is on the hunt for a new student to benefit from the bank’s Undergraduate Bursary Scheme.

The lucky recipient will need to be entering their first year of further education next autumn and will receive financial support from the bank during their time away studying, as well as valuable work experience across all areas of Skipton’s business.

The bursary award of £2,400 towards academic fees was first granted to Sarah Brereton, who found the support and experience invaluable as she now enters her final year studying Politics and Economics at Newcastle University. Sarah’s placement at the leading Channel Island bank has seen her work shadow several functions of the business during her eight weeks of paid employment, enjoying mentoring from Skipton’s management team.

Sarah said: “This has been my first experience in a corporate office environment and I’m so glad to have had this prior to looking for a job. It’s been a fantastic insight into the banking world and I’ve learnt a lot about the economy which has fed into my studies.

“The team at Skipton have been so welcoming which has made my time with them a really positive one. I would definitely consider a career at Skipton in the future, it is an amazing company to work for and one that really values and cares for their staff.”

Skipton will be excepting applications up to 31stMarch 2019 from those looking to head off to University next autumn. It would encourage applications from Guernsey students who are expecting strong results from their A levels and plan to undertake a degree relevant to banking such as Business, Accountancy, IT, Marketing or Economics.

Jim Coupe, Managing Director of Skipton International, said: “We will be looking for a motivated individual who is keen to learn and has the initiative to succeed. The Bursary Scheme was established to ease some of the financial burden that comes with going to University and to provide valuable work experience. Of course, if we identify talented individuals who may be interested in a career with Skipton upon their return to the island all the better.”

Applicants are invited to apply by completing an application form which can be found at www.skiptoninternational/bursaries
