Staff at Skipton have raised £2,000 for local cancer sufferers. Half was donated to The Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief and the other to Les Bourgs Hospice.
The money was raised through a series of internal events at the offices in the Bordage, including a leg-wax, meat draw and raffle. There is also a colleague tuck shop run by volunteers throughout the year, which added funds to the pot.
Peter Atkinson is Chairman of The Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief. He said: “The Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief and Bulstrode House are very grateful to the staff at Skipton for the generous donation which they have made following their fund raising. All the monies which we receive are used to give financial support to cancer patients and their families.
“At the present time there are increasing numbers who ask for help and that support is needed more than ever. So it is great to receive a sizeable donation from Skipton which helps us to continue to help others.”
Skipton’s Managing Director, Jim Coupe, commented: “Skipton is well known locally for its community support through sponsorships and the Skipton Community Fund, but this initiative was something entirely down to my colleagues, who devised, organised and continue to volunteer in order to support even more charities locally.
“I am delighted that two Guernsey cancer charities have received this support to aid them in their vital work.”
