The ‘Silk Road Artists’ Rendezvous’ is a brand program hosted by the China International Culture Association, aspiring to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and other countries with art as the bridge.
The program invites artists to visit China for exchange while seeking inspiration for creation. Since its launch in 2009, more than 170 artists from 22 countries have participated in the program and created 487 paintings, sculptures and ceramic works, which are collected by the China International Culture Association.
Culture connects souls, and art communicates the world. In order to strengthen the exchange and cooperation among Chinese and foreign artists in the field of art, enhance mutual understanding and friendship, the ‘Silk Road Artists’ Rendezvous – China Tour for Foreign Artists’ is scheduled to be held in November 2023 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, the birthplace of the Liangzhu culture.

November 23rd to December 3rd, 2023 (TBC)
Activities
During their stay in China, the host will arrange for the artists to visit cities such as Hangzhou (pictured), Shaoxing, and Huzhou in Zhejiang Province for inspiration and creation. Outstanding works will be selected to exhibition. Artists will participate in the ‘Liangzhu Forum’ for seminars and discussions, as well as other supporting activities.
Each artist is requested to create 2 to 3 paintings during the event, in acrylic, watercolour or ink. The final works will be collected by China International Culture Association.
Expenses
The host will bear the round-trip international travel expenses, insurance fees, as well as the expenses for accommodation and transportation. Common tools and materials (paper, frames and paints) for art creation will be provided by the organizer. Artists are kindly requested to bring their own creative tools if needed.
Who Can Apply
We’re looking for artists who fit the following profile:
- Currently Jersey-based, irrespective of birthplace
- Practising any form of art
- Aged 18 or above
- Graduation from art schools with relevant majors
- Experience in holding solo exhibitions or participating in group exhibitions will be considered
Priority will be given to artists:
- Collected by professional art institutions or galleries domestically and internationally
- Who participated in significant art exhibitions
- Who received awards.

Bear in mind, all residency details remain to be finalised.
Selection Process
The Government of Jersey will pre-select the artist.
The Chinese Embassy in the UK will recommend the artist to Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who will make the final decision.
Assistance will be given in handling the necessary procedures for the successful artist’s visit to China.
