Jersey’s Franco-British Council Young Leaders James Linder and Victor Guerin, alongside Local Leader Alexander Lake, met the French President and UK Prime Minister this week.
The three Islanders were taking part a three-day seminar which included policy discussions designed to help shape the future of Franco‑British relations – focusing on defence, climate cooperation, science and technology, and cross‑Channel migration.
Their participation follows the recent signing of a five-year partnership for the Government of Jersey, which provides dedicated opportunities for Islanders to join Franco-British Council programmes.
James Linder said: “It was a great experience to represent Jersey and to be part of such a significant moment in Franco-British relations.
“Meeting President Macron and hearing Prime Minister Starmer speak was a real honour, and I enjoyed being part of discussions on the big challenges facing Europe.
“It’s really great to see the Government of Jersey backing this partnership. It is a brilliant opportunity for people from the Island to get involved, build connections, and make a difference.”
Victor Guerin added: “As a Franco-British sculptor and Young Leader, the seminar is a powerful reminder of how exchange and cultural diplomacy shape our shared future. The highlight for me has been witnessing the signature of the historic agreement for the loan of the Bayeux Tapestry to the British Museum – a moment that embodies the evolving dialogue between France and the UK. Cultural exchange is not peripheral to diplomacy; it is its living heart.”
