After five years as Chair of Jersey homeless charity, Sanctuary Trust, Frank Walker OBE has retired and passed the baton to fellow trustee Tim Ringsdore.
Frank has been involved with Sanctuary Trust for 10 years, in which time the charity has opened a third shelter and navigated substantial change and challenge, including operating during the pandemic and adapting to new regulatory requirements in the care sector.
On his retirement, Frank commented: “Sanctuary Trust is such a critical charity in our community and I am immensely humbled and honoured to have been able to support the team and the residents during some particularly challenging times. I feel very connected to Sanctuary and, while I may be retiring as Chair, I remain firmly committed to the charity and I much look forward to supporting Tim.”
Tim Ringsdore (shown in the main picture), Chief Executive of the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority, who replaces Frank as Chair, joined Sanctuary Trust as a trustee in November 2021. Commenting on his appointment, Tim said: “I feel honoured to be taking on the chairmanship of Sanctuary Trust and building on Frank’s significant contributions. He’s made huge inroads to raise awareness and secure funding for the charity.
“Since joining as trustee, I have been profoundly struck by the work that Sanctuary does and by the very real problem we have with homelessness in our island. We have our work cut out to tackle it and we rely on public support every step of the way.”
Sarah Tumelty, Sanctuary Trust’s General Manager, added: “Working with Frank has been an invaluable experience and I am hugely grateful for his support and guidance in recent years, during some very challenging times for the charity. My team and I look forward to working together with Tim and the other trustees to address our ongoing funding and operational challenges.”
Tim officially replaced Frank as Chair on 30th June 2023. Frank will continue to serve as a trustee.
