Local construction company director, Greg Morrison, has set himself a year-long personal challenge to raise money for the Jersey Employment Trust by doing a sponsored run every month – and might even drop in the odd abseil.
Greg came up with the idea to Run for JET so that he could both raise awareness of its work and raise valuable funds for JET which will be used to help buy a van for Acorn, the reuse and training enterprise run in association with JET. The van will be used to transport items brought to the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at La Collette to the Acorn Reuse Centre in Trinity. It is also hoped it will be used to carry out home collections.
Greg is passionate about JET’s work and has a long-standing connection with the charity. Alongside his team at ROK, Greg has had personal experience of the work that JET do in securing work and placements for its clients. Greg has also served as an advisor on the board of trustees.
In 2016, Greg and members of the team at ROK took part in the Run Jersey Half Marathon, raising £3,500 for a computerised wood-cutting machine to support the work JET clients perform at Acorn Woodshack and this year he has taken that idea one step further to raise more funds for JET and Acorn.
Greg said: “I truly admire the support the Jersey Employment Trust offers some of the most vulnerable members of our community and hope to continually raise awareness of their work. The Run for JET initiative sprung from a desire to get back into running in 2019, I took part in the Jersey Park Run on the 26thJanuary to kick off my year of challenges ahead.”
Jocelyn Butterworth, CEO of the Jersey Employment Trust, said: “Once again, we are sincerely grateful for Greg’s fundraising efforts and hope he receives ample support to reach his goal of funding the purchase of a van.
“Transporting and collecting goods is, obviously, fundamental to the smooth running of the Reuse Centre and to make sure that we have goods in the right place and ready for resale. Items like vans are expensive assets and we rely on the support of people like Greg to make sure that we can provide the best possible service for the Island and for our clients.”
