Rubis Channel Islands is sponsoring the Go Wild Gorillas trail, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Gerald Durrell’s Jersey Zoo.

This summer, artists from around the world, schools, businesses and community groups will be coming together to create 40, specially designed life-size gorilla sculptures. The sculptures will inhabit Jersey’s streets and various wild spaces to Rewild the people as they reconnect with nature while finding the gorillas.

Explaining Go Wild Gorillas, Durrell’s CEO Dr Lesley Dickie said:

“I am so delighted to that we are putting on this amazing sculpture trail that will really captivate the island this summer. Go Wild Gorillas combines art and conservation and I hope it will get people out enjoying nature, seeing some incredible art and learning more about gorillas. In November these beautiful sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds to build a new home for our precious gorilla family at Jersey Zoo..”

This fantastic project will help to raise much needed funds for Jersey Zoo to build a new state of the art home for their resident gorilla family. For the last 2 months artists have travelled to Jersey from far and wide to get involved with the project with each gorilla possessing its own unique personality.

Nick Crolla Head of Sales and Marketing at Rubis said;

“We’re excited to be a part of this highly anticipated event which will be a colourful and thoughtprovoking showcase highlighting Jersey’s up-and-coming creative and cultural arts scene. We’relooking forward for the community coming together to really engage with the trail which we think will be a truly enjoyable fun activity for all the family.”

Rubis has also announced that they are working with Wild in Art seasoned veteran Susan Webber from Somerset. With an astonishing 17 sculptures under her belt they are confident that her gorgeous design will be a big hit with all who come across him. Susan Webber commented:

“This has been a fun project to work on and I have really enjoyed my painting experience at Jane James for Go Wild Gorillas. I believe that this campaign will raise awareness and the much needed funds for Durrell to build their new home for the gorillas. I also hope everyone has awonderful time looking for the sculptures and I look forward to seeing the next stages of the trail.”
