The Saffery Rotary Walk, taking place on Saturday 10 June 2023, is a well-loved community event that strives for inclusivity and accessibility, encouraging people of all abilities and ages to take part.
Introduced in 2016, the relay option is as a way of encouraging more walkers to take part in sections of the round island course. This is a fantastic way for families, friendship groups, businesses and local organisations to participate in the challenge while championing the camaraderie between walkers, and in turn helping to raise money for this year’s selected charities.
Hundreds of islanders will tackle the 39-mile route, either as individuals or as part of a relay team. Relay teams will consist of four to seven members who will be able to divide the seven-section route amongst their team. Each section varies in difficulty and length ranges from four to eight miles. The relay allows for team building so now is the perfect time to rally friends, family or colleagues to embark on the journey together.
Simon Milsted, the Chair of Saffery Rotary Walk’s organising team said: “This year marks the 25th Saffery Rotary Walk. This fantastic milestone will be made even more special if we are able to achieve a record-breaking number of signups this year.
“It is incredibly important for the Walk to be accessible to all islanders, regardless of physical ability. This is why the relay is such an integral part of the Walk, enabling islanders to join forces to combat the 39-mile challenge as a team.
“34 relay teams took part in 2022 and we hope to continue building on those numbers over the coming years. There is even an award presented to the team which raises the most money!”
Lisa Vizia, Director of Saffery Champness, said: “Our goal is to encourage islanders of all ages and abilities to participate in the challenge. This is not only a fantastic way to support a wonderful variety of local charities, but rather an opportunity to do so as a member of a team.
“The Walk is a brilliant way to bring people together to achieve a combined goal when crossing the finish line. The atmosphere on the day of the Walk is unlike anything else and is a truly special, memorable moment to take away from the event.”
