Jersey law firm BCR Law has announced the keynote speakers for its Comity conference, which will take place in London next month. Comity is a practice among courts of different jurisdictions involving the mutual recognition of legislative, executive, and judicial acts.

The Hon. Mr Justice Mostyn, a London High Court Judge, and the former Bailiff of Jersey, Sir Michael Birt, who still sits as a Commissioner in the Royal Court of Jersey, will both share a platform with Ann Hussey QC and BCR Law Partner, Mark Renouf at the historic Gray’s Inn on 26th April.

Mr Justice Mostyn is best known as a Family Division Judge, after previously appearing as a barrister in high profile divorce cases for clients such Sir Paul McCartney during his divorce from Heather Mills, as well as Karin v Ray Parlour and for Nicholas Granatino in Radmacher v Granatino. Meanwhile, Ann Hussey QC is a senior barrister known for her flamboyant and engaging speaking style. She specializes in high net worth divorce, separation and pre and post nuptial agreements. She is instructed by husbands, wives and separating unmarried couples and also advises off shore asset holding entities.

Mark Renouf explained: “We are delighted to have attracted such renowned speakers for this event. It’s of interest to both Jersey and English lawyers in terms of trusts, how the Jersey Courts enforce orders that have been made in the English courts, often in divorce proceedings, whilst keeping within the spirit of our own laws. We’re delighted that Mr Justice Mostyn, Sir Michael Birt and Ann Hussey QC have all given up their time to examine the issues of judicial co-operation and the challenges faced by jurisdictions in the name of comity.”

The event is open via invitation only to UK based lawyers and Jersey trustees.
